Paddle boarding in Grand Case:
The season has just begun here in St. Martin. This year I decided to take a chance and open a new rental spot in Grand Case. Pinel is a good place for kayaking and paddle boarding, but Grand Case is also a terrific watersports playground. Cruising through this well-known place in St Martin is a wonderful experience. On the North part of the beach, the water is turquoise and flat, and the bottom is a medley of seagrass and white sand. On my last trip in the bay, I saw 2 dolphin-fish (mahi-mahi) under my board! It's also common to spot sea turtles, stingrays and eagle rays.
My friend Richard Blade from Sirius XM Radio visited me with his wife. I was standing on Grand Case's beach next to the famous Calmos Cafe to rent them my gear. They took 2 paddle boards to explore Creole Rock, one of the best snorkeling and diving spots in St. Martin's Marine Park. The weather was perfect. With absolutely no wind, they took off to the rock. After an easy paddle and a nice snorkel, they returned the beach just as a manta ray was cruising through the shallow sea, playing with the people in the water. When they saw this amazing creature under their boards, they immediately grabbed their snorkel gear and jumped in the water to get a closer look. They spent almost a whole hour following it, taking pictures and swimming side by side. After, Richard told me that it was his first time with a manta ray. I understood his excitement... it was my first time seeing a manta ray in St. Martin, too! Pure magic!
